Battle of Brice’s Crossroads

 

·        The Brice’s Crossroads Battlefield Commission and the 7thTennessee Cavalry, Company D, are committed to making this living history weekend as safe as possible for both our visitors and participants. By observing the following, you help protect yourself and others. Your compliance is expected and appreciated.

 

  • No one under the age of 16 may use or carry firearms during this event. Proof of age in the form of a driver’s license or photo I.D. may be required.

 

  • Firearms may only be loaded and fired during planned weapons demonstrations and mock battles. No impromptu firing.

 

  • Weapons should be inspected by officers and/or senior NCOs prior to each activity in which they are to be used. Weapons that fail to pass inspection may not be used until any deficiencies are corrected. Field Cleaning between uses is encouraged.

 

  • All ammunition used must be in the form of pre-rolled paper cartridges. Musket charges are to be no more than 80 grains.

 

  • Cartridges must be carried in a cartridge box. Extra rounds must be wrapped and carried in a secure place. No powder will be carried in horns, flasks, or cans in the field.

 

  • Ammunition chests will remain closed except when powder charges are being removed. Ammunition chest will b at least 25 feet behind the trail when the gun is placed in battery.

 

  • Visitors may be allowed to touch or handle unloaded weapons only with the owner’s permission and direct supervision. No visitor may be allowed to touch, handle or fire a loaded weapon under any circumstances.

 

  • Rammers may be carried in the field during skirmishes or mock battles but may not be used.

 

  • Infantry will not use “fixed” bayonets during skirmishing or mock battles, but may be used for drill or picket duty.

  •  
  • Edged weapons will not be unsheathed without the permission of an officer.

 

  • All firing will be done at an elevated angle within 15 yards of opposing participants. Do not aim directly at another person.

 

  • No simulated hand-to-had combat will take place during skirmishing or mock battles unless it has been planned and practiced in advance by the units to be involved.

 

  • In the event of an injury or medical emergency, participants should yell out the modern term “medic.”  All action should then immediately cease until emergency medical personnel have taken the person needing assistance from the scene.

 

 

  • Please treat all participants and our visitors with courtesy and respect. Foul language and disorderly conduct will not be tolerated. Unit leaders are expected to maintain order within their groups.

 

  • Consumption of any alcoholic beverages should be limited to hours after the end of each day’s activities and is expressly prohibited when members of the public are in camps. Public drunkenness or DUI will not be tolerated and will be referred to the appropriate authorities.
