Living History and Demonstrations.

        In celebration of the 143rd anniversary of the Battle of Bricešs Crossroads, living history encampment and day of demonstrations will be staged Saturday, June 9, 2007, at the battlefield, which is located five miles west of Baldwyn on Highway 370 west. The event is hosted by the 7th Tennessee Cavalry; a long established living history group composed of veteran re-enactors. On Saturday at 2 p.m., a small skirmish will be staged. During the day on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m., re-enactors will be present to perform demonstrations until 5 p.m. Demonstrations will be available at the battlefield site and at the visitors center. The visitors and Interpretive Center, located at 607 Grisham Street, five miles east of the battlefield in Baldwyn, will be open all day Saturday and Sunday and will offer an orientation to the battle.
Ladies are invited to a tea hosted by Reenactor Pat Burkhead on Saturday at noon. Also sponsoring the event is the Bricešs Crossroads Museum Commission, the battlefield commission who has purchased 1400 acres in addition to the National Park Service site, and the City of Baldwyn. Craftsmen will demonstrate blacksmithing, bread making, weapons demonstration, and civil war cooking. Re-enactors will also present weapons and artillery drill demonstrations, along with programs about soldierin' and camp life. For more information, contact Carpenter at (662) 365-3969.
