Travelers who stop to visit the Brice's Crossroads Battlefield in Northern Mississippi now have an opportunity to learn more about the battle at the visitors’ center and walk on the ground where the soldiers fought.  The visitor's and interpretive center opened in August 1998 and phase one of the developments of the additional battlefield property purchased for preservation is now completed.

Exhibits

The visitor center's professionally designed permanent exhibit, "Forrest's Finest Hour," tells the story of the battle, the opposing armies, and the leaders and personalities involved. The centerpiece of the exhibition features a beautifully done battlefield model that uses over 1,500 finely painted miniatures to show the final stages of the battle. Several of the exhibits have interactive features. The visitors center preserves and display a collection of interesting  Civil War artifacts, many from the Brice's Crossroads battlefield.  In addition to its exhibit gallery, the center also features a media room. Here visitors can see "The Battle of Brice's Crossroads," a 22-minute video program produced especially for the visitor center. The video uses battle reenactment footage, animated maps, photographs and period artwork to bring the June 10, 1864 battle vividly to life. The program also includes appearances and commentary by noted author and historian Shelby Foote.

Two temporary exhibit cases feature items that were metal detected or excavated at the  Brice's Crossroads Battlefield. They are on loan to the center by local metal detectors.

Another special feature is a memorial on the visitor center lawn dedicated to the soldiers from all of the states, north and south, that fought at Brice's Crossroads. This memorial includes the flags of 14 states and is lighted at night making it visible from nearby Highway 45.
